I recently converted the Long Beach 2010 to an OWR (pta exe) track by changing the track textures and grip values. IMHO, it provides a better feel to the quick responsiveness of today's open wheel cars while still allowing the cars to slide and drift predictably. That it not the characteristic I would attribute to the "usual method" of just increasing asphalt and concrete grip values.

I also have used this method for a Hockenheim 2010 version which is currently in development by Amtronic. (Actually, I discovered this method while working on the hockenheim track.) ATM, Hockenheim 2010 development seems to be in a holding pattern.
I hope to convert some other tracks as time allows.
